What is roleplay (RP)?
Assuming a character role, like an actor/actress, and communicating with others within the constraints of that character.
Here in the LADS RP community, we see RP of love interests (LI), supporting NPCs (e.g. Tara, Greyson, Yvonne, the twins), and main characters (MCs). Some
RP accs will play to canon only, but others will interpret with creative liberties (‘AU’ or alternate universe).
Those responding as MCs may respond as ‘self-insert’ (retaining their IRL personality within the fandom universe) or create an MC persona and respond using their desired characteristics.
Common terms
Scene/play/plot = The premise of the RP interaction, either casual or more involved.
‘Literacy’ = can mean many things, but in my eyes generally describes the fluency or detail of the RPer’s responses. In simple terms, it can be ‘literate/lit’, ‘semi-lit’ or ‘advanced lit’. Most casual RP with shorter responses is semi-lit (what we do on posts/GC/story tags!). Lit/adv lit are more involved with writing and description of surroundings and events (more suited to posts/DMs).
IC = in character; most interactions will be assumed to be IC unless marked otherwise
OOC = out of character; usually when speaking to admins or about IRL matters and marked by writing within brackets like (hello) [hello] <<hello>>
God-modding = controlling the actions or responses of the other player’s character within your response
ERP/smut = erotic roleplay. Self explanatory… No judgement here. Always check for age, consent, and mutual comfort. Some writers fade to black, some do not. Be responsible!
Etiquette
The majority of RP accs will have a set of rules explaining how they wish to play and interact. It is IMPORTANT to check them to ensure the comfort and enjoyment of all parties!
Here on IG play is commonly done via story tags, post tags/collabs, in GCs or via DM.
Each RP admin, whether MC, NPC or LI, has the right to set their rules and have them respected. Please don’t push boundaries, it’s not cool (;
Communication is key, whether IC/OOC. Ask if you’re unsure. Be honest and open. If anything feels off, discuss it privately and either resolve it or part ways amicably. Sometimes your styles will not match and that’s okay!
Finally, some personal musings…
LADS is an interesting fandom to RP within because it is an otome game… Romance is established, and most of us are here to drool over and enjoy our preferred LIs. Of course we feel excitement when commenting with an LI RP acc that we consider a main in-game.
It is important to remember that RP is not real life. The ‘romance’ your characters may experience here does not translate into a real-life relationship with your RP partner, and is not a healthy way to receive emotional validation!
If things ever get too heavy, mutually take a step back, breathe, and remember that this is a game: none of it is real. RP is a creative partnership or outlet, nothing more.
Have fun, players <3 Thanks for reading.
